Oil and gas and renewables firms from across the Highlands and islands were celebrating after the Energy North Awards last night.
More than 150 people attended the ceremony at Drumossie Hotel in Inverness as the region’s leading energy service companies and training providers were recognised for their contribution to the local economy.
Among the winners was Orkney-based environmental consultant Aquatera, which picked up the export award for the second year running.
Its director of business and sustainable development, Gaynor Jones, said: “This year has been all about pursuing our contacts in Chile, a new market for us, and we are delighted that a number of projects have come to fruition, made possible by the fact we now have Aquatera staff based in Chile.
“We really enjoyed the ceremony as it’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues old and new. We are also pleased to see the profile of the event gather momentum year on year.”
The oil and gas award went to separation specialist Opus. Director of strategic operations Glen McLellan said the accolade recognised its skilled and dedicated workforce.
Also among the winners was Global Energy Group’s Nigg Skills Academy. The apprenticeship school’s class of 2012 was named the industry’s best newcomer.
Energy North board member Sidney Johnston of international engineering and project-management company Amec collected the ambassador of the year title.
David Bone, partner and head of energy and natural resources at event sponsor Harper Macleod, said: “The talent of the people within the energy sector in the north of Scotland is truly inspiring.
“It’s their drive and determination which is leading the growth and continued development of the industry.”
Energy North has more than 170 members across the Highlands, Western Isles, Orkney, Shetland and north-east.
