Framo Engineering of Norway has secured a $200million contract with Total for the supply of a subsea multiphase pumping system for the Girassol Resources Initiatives (GirRI) project offshore Angola.
“This is our third contract to provide booster pump systems for Total E&P Angola’s Block 17 asset, the first one being the Pazflor pumping system,” said Ole Steine, MD at Framo, which is a subsidiary of Schlumberger.
“Our experience in delivering more than 25 of these systems will enable us to support Total in extending the life of Girassol.”
The multi-phase pump system to be manufactured and installed on block 17, offshore Angola in 1,350m of water will boost the delivery rates from two production flow loops.
The contract covers the complete system of topside power and control and two subsea pump modules. The pump system is based on the latest development of helico-axial technology, which is able to cope with a record differential pressure of up to 120 bar.
The system will be assembled and tested at the Framo Engineering advanced test facility at Horsoey, just outside Bergen. Delivery is planned for summer of 2014.
The 630milliion (base case) barrels Girassol field was brought onstream in 2001 and was technologically highly innovative in its day. The field remains a major producer for Total. The GirRI project is aimed at extracting a further 130million barrels of hydrocarbons.
