Bad weather has halted a exploration well in Faroese waters by Norwegian oil and gas firm Statoil.
Drilling on the Brugdan II well, between the Faroe Islands and Shetland, had started in June and had not yet reached the target it was aiming for, said operator and 50% equity holder Statoil.
Drilling has been with the COSL Pioneer semi-submersible rig. Partners on the well are ExxonMobil, with 49% and Atlantic Petroleum with 1%.
The Brugdan II well is the eighth exploration well drilled in Faroese waters since 2001, said Statoil.
Drilling in the region has increased in recent years with BP and Dong currently drilling exploration wells west of Shetland.
