North-east firm Enviroco was among the winners at an award ceremony recognising Scotland’s greenest companies yesterday.
Enviroco, a subsidiary of Aberdeen-based logistics business Asco, specialises in the management of industrial waste.
It picked up the environmental and clean technology accolade at the Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (Vibes) awards in Glasgow. The company’s recognition came for its Eclipse tank-cleaning system, developed after many years of research.
Enviroco managing director Dan Taylor said: “We are absolutely delighted with today’s Vibes Award success and we believe the Eclipse system to be a worthy winner. I would like to thank my colleagues at Enviroco who had the vision, experience, talent, passion and persistence to create a system which offers a major breakthrough in safety and environmental performance.”
Also among the winners was Peter Lederer, chairman of the Gleneagles Hotel and former chairman of VisitScotland.
Mr Lederer came away the lifetime achievement award in recognition of his work improving environmental performance.
North-east hair salon Elan Hair Design received a special commendation in the energy category of the Vibes awards, but at a separate ceremony in London the Inverurie business came out on top.
The salon was up against companies from across the UK in the British Chamber of Commerce’s (BCC) Chamber Awards.
It won the sustainability award for its commitment to saving energy and reducing waste.
BCC president Martyn Pellew said: “We had a record number of entries from all over the UK, with some excellent tales of innovation, job creation, growth and export success. Elan Hair Design is a fitting winner of the sustainability award and shows what can be achieved with a committed management team and a strong vision.”
