Murphy Oil has failed to find hydrocarbons with an exploration well drilled on the Mer Profonde Nord block offshore the Republic of Congo.
The Opale Marine-1 well was drilled using Diamond Offshore’s semisubmersible Ocean Confidence. The target was an estimated 250million barrels of hydrocarbons believed to lie in a carbonates formation.
Murphy said that because of the failure of the Opale Marine-1, it is writing off its Titane Marine-1 that was suspended after being drilled in October 2010 to await results of additional exploratory drilling on the block.
