Eidesvik Offshore’s new-build maintenance and light construction vessel Seven Viking is set to start an eight-year contract with Subsea 7.
The 50/50 joint venture between the two companies, Eidesvik Seven, has taken delivery of the $144million SX148 class X-bow Seven Viking from the Ulstein yard in Norway.
The vessel is built for work in the Arctic and other harsh environments. It is equipped with a 100-ton crane and is capable of integrated module handling.
Sevan Viking has triple-azimuth propulsion and is able to sustain service speed up to 16 knots. It has accommodation for 90 people and has the distinction of being the 40th vessel based on Ulstein’s bull-nosed X-bow concept.
Meanwhile, Atlantic Offshore, another Norwegian offshore support vessel owner, is expanding its fleet with another emergency response rescue Vessel (ERRV).
Catalyst to the investment decision is a new contract awarded by Shell for UK North Sea service.
The choice is a further HY 820 field support vessel designed in collaboration with Havyard.
Atlantic expects to take delivery of the ship in 2015 and is earmarked for service in the Fram field.
“We have been close partners for many years, and consider it as a vote of confidence that Shell chose to expand the cooperation,” said Roy Wareberg, CEO of the company.
The new ship will be the third HY 820 class vessel ordered. Two similar units are currently under construction at the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Zamakona in San Sebastian.
