Peterhead deck equipment specialist Maritime Developments (MDL) is launching a new piece of equipment at Subsea 2013 today.
The firm, which supplies back-deck equipment for the energy sector, is unveiling its latest four-track tensioner – a 51-tonne piece of equipment used as part of laying or retrieving subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines offshore.
The first one is due to be used offshore in the last quarter of this year.
MDL, which has operations in Aberdeen and Peterhead and has its origins in the fishing industry, said the new tensioner was designed, developed and manufactured for the deepwater market.
Mike Gaskin, commercial director at Maritime Developments, said: “We’ve had an extremely positive response from clients and potential clients to the new tensioner design.”
MDL recently announced expansion plans for its Peterhead base and it says it is expecting to grow its team of 26 to 34 in the next year.
The firm is also moving into new larger premises in the centre of Aberdeen, which contains the business development and design operations.
