Offshore support business Bibby Ship Management said yesterday it had won a £100million North Sea contract with oil and gas giant BP.
Bibby said about 200 jobs would be secured by the five-year deal to manage four regional support vessels (RSVs) and two platform-supply vessels (PSVs) for BP’s assets in the North Sea and west of Shetland. Because the PSVs have yet to be built, it is understood further jobs could be created once Bibby takes on the management of the two ships.
Bibby Ship Management, part of Bibby Line Group (BLG), said the contract would be managed out of its Aberdeen office and also included overseeing eight rescue craft aboard the four Caledonian RSVs.
BLG managing director Sir Michael Bibby said he hoped the contract would lead to further work with BP both in the North Sea and internationally in the coming years. Sir Michael added: “We have put a lot of time and effort into developing our ship management over the last couple of years in terms of investing in systems and people, so for us this fantastic award with a great brand name in the industry justifies the investment we have put in.
“BP is a top company in the industry which has trusted us with not only its new assets but some of the existing ones as well, so it is a true reflection on the quality we offer and value we give.”
Bibby Line’s subsidiaries also include subsea installation firm Bibby Offshore, which with Bibby Ship Management collectively employs about 250 people onshore and 750 offshore.
Mark Hardie, BP’s logistics infrastructure manager in the UK, said: “This award is a key component of BP’s long-term marine strategy and we look forward to working with Bibby Ship Management to ensure high levels of service to our offshore operations.”
