Aberdeen-based Ecosse Subsea Systems launched a new rigid pipelay system it has developed at Subsea 2013 yesterday.
The patented Plastic Reeled Elastic Pipelay (Prep) system can be deployed from smaller, more readily available vessels, helping to reduce installation time and costs for pipe-laying projects, said the firm.
Ecosse said traditionally rigid pipelay projects relied on dedicated vessels, with hire rates in the region of £250,000 plus per day.
Managing director Mike Wilson, who was also presenting in conference sessions at Subsea 2013, said: “A backlog on the startup of projects is building up and we expect Prep to attract a lot of attention from visitors to Subsea 2013.”
