Oil firm Bridge Energy has won an explorer of the year award at a Norwegian industry event.
The firm, which works across the UK and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea, follows in the footsteps of Tullow Oil, Statoil and ConocoPhillips in winning the peer-chosen accolade at Rystad Energy’s Gullkronen 2013 awards in Olso.
Last year, Statoil was honoured for its discovery of the giant Johan Svedrupp field.
Judges said they were impressed by Aberdeen and Norway-based Bridge Energy’s high level of dedication and drilling efforts in 2012.
They resulted in two likely commercial discoveries: Guarantiana, operated by Total and containing 50million barrels of recoverable oil; and Asha, whose reserves were increased to 30-100 million barrels, from 20-35million barrels, earlier this week.
Bridge chief executive Tom Reynolds said: “What it recognises for me is what the guys in Norway have been doing for the last three to four years, looking at blocks, working up prospects over time and drilling them with success.”
