The north-east head of Scottish Enterprise has been promoted to oversee the development agency’s energy work.
Maggie McGinlay, who has been SE’s regional director for the north-east for nearly five years, will become director of energy and low-carbon technologies at the end of next month.
She succeeds Adrian Gillespie, who will become SE’s managing director of operations in the organisation’s senior leadership team.
SE said the changes were due to the partial retirement of current managing director of operations, Jim McFarlane.
SE chief executive Lena Wilson said: “I’m delighted that Adrian will be joining our senior management team and that Maggie will assume responsibility for our work with the energy and low-carbon technologies sector.
“Adrian’s experience leading our energy portfolio in the past few years will be put to good use as we look to continue to improve Scotland’s business environment and support Scottish companies to embrace new opportunities at home and overseas, while Maggie’s experience and network within Scotland’s energy capital will ensure we continue to drive forward economic growth in Scotland’s energy sector.”
Mrs McGinlay, who was born at Buckie and graduated in home economics at what is now Robert Gordon University, has worked on business development activity with high-growth companies at SE for around 15 years.
Before becoming a regional director, she had been head of the organisation’s Scottish Food and Drink initiative for five years, overseeing the programme to increase profitable growth in the sector. Since her promotion to regional director in 2008 she has been carrying out both roles.
Scottish Enterprise said Linda McPherson, who is its director for creative industries, would take on responsibility for food and drink following Mrs McGinlay’s promotion. The organisation is currently recruiting for a new north-east director.
Adrian Gillespie became SE’s head of energy-related activities in 2009, having previously been director at the agency’s digital-media team.
