A strong delegation from Scotland is targeting new business in Australia’s booming energy sector at an oil and gas show.
The Australasian Oil and Gas (AOG) exhibition and conference opened in Perth, Western Australia, on Wednesday and runs until today.
Trade organisation Scottish Development International has made sure there is a strong tartan flavour and there are at least a dozen firms from Scotland in a UK pavilion.
North-east exhibitors include payroll management specialist activpayroll, engineering company Ace Winches and business software firm Collabro.
Martin Slowey, international business development manager at Collabro, already has experience of the opportunities awaiting AOG exhibitors.
He said: “We have a delegation in Perth and are looking forward to building new relationships in what is a thriving region of the energy world.”
Mr Slowey said that Collabro’s decision to open an office in Perth and significant contracts already won Down Under highlighted the value of the Australian market.
He added: “There is a large amount of untapped, loose deepwater gas as well as shale-oil reserves estimated to be worth 20trillion Australian dollars (£13.45trillion).
“Not surprisingly, UK companies are very keen to make their expertise available in such a vibrant environment.”
AOG is one of a number of events on the calendar for Collabro and other Scottish exhibitors, with Oil and Gas Asia in Malaysia in June another key date.
