Wood Group PSN has signed a three-year contract extension with operator CNR International in the North Sea, securing nearly 500 jobs.
The production-facility support arm of Aberdeen energy service giant Wood Group said yesterday it would provide project management, engineering and construction services for five of CNR’s installations in UK waters.
It is understood the deal, which centres on the Murchison, Tiffany and Ninian North, South and Central platforms, is worth more than £100million.
WGPSN has held the contract since 2005, when the business was part of Halliburton and known as KBR Production Services.
David Stewart, UK managing director at WGPSN, said: “This is a major contract extension and enables us to secure employment for 200 offshore personnel and 250 onshore employees, working from our offices in Aberdeen, Runcorn and Hull. We look forward to continuing our long-term working relationship with CNR.”
WGPSN has also joined forces with an American business to respond to well blowouts in the Gulf of Mexico.
Alongside the Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC), the Wood subsidiary aims to put together a taskforce of 100 people to tackle any deepwater well-control incidents.
The team will be called into action if MWCC’s modular capture vessels are needed to redirect hydrocarbons from a well.
The workers will be hand-picked and trained to operate and maintain the vessels, which separate liquids from gas, flare the gas and safely store oil until it is transferred onshore by a shuttle tanker.
