Scottish charity The Kiltwalk has been nominated to benefit from this year’s Press and Journal Energy Ball.
This was revealed yesterday by the ball’s title sponsor, Hunting Energy Services.
The Kiltwalk organises sponsored walking events to raise money to support Scottish children’s charities. They include CHAS, Clic Sargent, Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, Aberlour, the Archie Foundation and TACC.
This year’s Energy Ball is being held in the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Saturday, October 5.
The event is one of the highlights of the social calendar, attracting more than 1,300 people last year.
Official charity for the 2012 ball was Monty’sMaggie’s Appeal, which received a £31,000-plus boost.
Around 1,400 guests are expected for this year’s event. Although the ball is not a charity event, The Kiltwalk will benefit through a collection on the night plus a silent auction.
The headline act will be Kid Creole and the Coconuts, one of the top pop groups of the 1980s.
Impressionist Rory Bremner is also on the bill for the black-tie event, now in its sixth year.
The Kiltwalk is to host its first event in the Aberdeen area on Sunday, September 15, with different distances to suit all abilities.
Carey McEvoy, founder and chief executive of The Kiltwalk, said: “We had been wondering how much the people and community of Aberdeen would embrace the first Aberdeen and Deeside Kiltwalk. Now we have the answer and it couldn’t be more exciting – to be chosen as the official charity of the Press and Journal Energy Ball is fantastic news and we can’t thank Hunting enough.”
Bruce Ferguson, managing director at Hunting, said: “Nominating one charity to benefit from our fundraising efforts is always hard, but we are absolutely delighted to have chosen The Kiltwalk as it supports so many children’s charities across Scotland as well as local charities. It is also a way to encourage our employees to exercise and engage with one another while we raise money for this worthy cause.”
