The new boss at well integrity firm Read Cased Hole says he is looking forward to leading the business at a time when the industry is emerging from a long period of uncertainty.
Kevin Giles has been promoted to the role of managing director after three years as the Aberdeen-headquartered firm’s commercial director.
Mr Giles replaces Bruce Melvin, who took on the top job at Read last year following six years as chief financial officer.
Mr Melvin, whose title was chief executive, is moving into the newly created position of corporate director, which makes him responsible for managing Read’s shareholder relationships and M&A activities.
The position of CEO was used when both Read and data analytics business ANSA were managed to together as a group.
ANSA demerged from Read earlier this year and both businesses have now appointed their own managing directors.
Alan Walsh, who was at Read for six years, most recently as service delivery director, was unveiled as ANSA’s boss last week.
The new boss at Read, Mr Giles, has more than 30 years of experience in the well intervention market under his belt.
Prior to joining Read, he spent six years at Welltec in senior management positions and before that he worked with Schlumberger’s electric wireline business for 20 years.
Based in Aberdeen, his career has involved extensive international travel to locations including Alaska, South America, Kazakhstan, the Middle East and throughout Europe, and he was located in Malaysia for four years.
He will now take on responsibility for the day-to-day running of Read’s worldwide business, which has 30 people on its books across facilities in the Granite City, Doha, Houston and Anchorage.
Mr Giles said: “I am delighted to be stepping up to lead the Read business as we start to emerge from a long period of uncertainty and disruption.
“It’s never been more important for us to support new and existing customers and business partners looking for robust cased hole logging expertise.
“As an organisation, we will be wholly focused on delivering Read’s exemplary standards of safety, service quality, technical excellence and customer care.”
Read is majority-owned by Norwegian private equity firm, Norvestor.
Tor Erling Gunnerod, Norvestor equity partner and chairman of Read, said: “Kevin’s knowledge of the global cased hole logging market, the technologies involved, and the needs of oil and gas operators is second to none.
“I have every confidence that Kevin will continue successfully growing Read’s international reach, customer base and service portfolio, and look forward to seeing the company emerge even stronger under his leadership.
“We are grateful to Bruce for his contribution and dedication to Read during his time as CEO.”
