Sand management specialist SMS has opened an office in south-east Asia after landing two contracts worth a total of £750,000.
The Aberdeen-based firm has opened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to have a new base in the region for the contracts.
Alistair Moncur, intergrated project manager at SMS, said: “We predict our South East Asia team will double in size to eight over the course of the next 12 months to the volume of work there.
“Malaysia represents the hub of oil and gas operations in South East Asia and as a support services organisation to the offshore oil and gas industry in the area, the regional office shows our commitment to the area.
“The increase in deepwater discoveries in the last few years, where almost 40% of new discoveries in the last five years have been in deepwater, is also poised to spur business opportunities in the oil and gas industry and will promote upstream investment in the country.”
SMS, which provides sand management consultancy and monitoring packages, systems design and engineering for specialised sand monitoring equipment has already carried out work for companies including Schlumberger, Shell and Biendong in Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.
