Craig Group has launched its latest platform-supply vessel, Grampian Sceptre, at the Balenciaga shipyard in northern Spain.
She was officially named by Frances Murray, wife of Alistair Murray, logistics team lead at Talisman Sinopec Energy UK.
Craig committed £50million to the construction of the vessel, and her sister ship Grampian Sovereign. They are the largest built by the Aberdeen-based group and both have secured long-term contracts with Talisman Sinopec Energy UK.
Managed by Craig division North Star Shipping, the two ships have created 50 jobs. Craig Group said it continued to operate the largest and most modern British wholly owned fleet engaged in the UK offshore industry, supporting 50 installations in the North Sea.
Managing director Douglas Craig said: “Our major investment in oilfield-support vessels firmly underpins our position as market leaders in the provision of offshore support, ROV (remotely operated vehicle) survey, platform-supply and emergency-response and rescue vessels. It also shows our commitment to the marine industry and that we continue to offer our customers an unrivalled service.”
North Star MD Callum Bruce said: “We are constantly looking at ways of expanding and modernising our fleet.
“These vessels feature the most up-to-date technology and designs, meeting our customers’ needs in terms of safety, quality and efficiency.”
They bring the new-build programme by Craig since 2003 to more than £230million, representing 22 new vessels, with the fleet now standing at some 36 ships.
