Offshore workers received more information on helicopter safety from the Press & Journal than their own companies, the Step Change in Safety study revealed.
People responding to the survey cited the P&J as their main source of information, ahead of their employers and industry bodies like Oil & Gas UK, Step Change in Safety and trade unions.
Step Change team leader Les Linklater said: “It is really important if you are a trusted information source to recognise the position you hold.
“We have to recognise that the media, and the P&J in particular, are really important for us in getting the right message out there, which has to be based on fact.”
