US energy business GE Oil & Gas has signed a £54million deal with Pemex to support the operator’s Gulf of Mexico projects.
GE said it would supply subsea wellheads for the Mexican firm’s deep water drilling operations in the region.
While the Gulf holds more than half of Mexico’s potential or prospective hydrocarbons, advanced technology is required to make production viable due to the deep water in the area.
Octavio Mejía, regional sales manager for GE Oil and Gas Subsea Systems in Latin America, said the latest contract extended the firm’s relationship with Pemex.
“During the last six years GE has provided top of the line technology and training to Pemex,” he said.
“So far, we have provided subsea wellheads and service to more than 24 wells and we expect to provide many more.”
Carlos Gil, head of Pemex Exploration and Production, said: “Pemex uses the most advanced technology in the world – our main goal is to optimize the hydrocarbon reserves and the resources we have.
“This is one of the reasons we’ve been using technology and expertise provided by GE Oil & Gas for several years now.”
