Investing in the South African energy market is a natural progression for Aberdeen companies looking to “extend their business to new frontiers”, the country’s economic minister has told Energy Voice.
Yusuf Timol was speaking after a seminar on the oil and gas opportunities available in sub-Saharan Africa, hosted by the Marcliffe Hotel.
A number of Aberdeen and international companies, including some supermajors, have already invested in the South African energy market, having bought significant acreage in the past year, Timol claimed.
He also admitted that there is a skills gap is in the relatively young South African industry and stressed that forging strong relationships between the UK and sub-Saharan Africa are needed to address this issue.
