Engineering and project-management firm Amec said yesterday it had signed a £110million contract extension with BG Group in the North Sea.
Amec said the two-year agreement to support operations on BG’s three central North Sea platforms would secure 400 jobs offshore and in Aberdeen.
It follows an initial £140million contract signed in 2011 for Amec to provide engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and project management expertise on the Armada, North Everest and Lomond installations.
Under the original deal, Amec carried out major projects including three subsea tiebacks plus changes to the topsides at Armada and North Everest. Amec’s first agreement with BG came in 2006 and centred on Armada. North Everest and Lomond followed five years later.
Alan Johnstone, managing director of Amec’s brownfield business in Europe, said: “Amec has been supporting BG Group with brownfield engineering and construction services since our first contract award in 2006 and we are delighted to be continuing in our long-term relationship with them.
“Our excellent record of delivery, including an excellent safety record, and now this latest extension of the contract are all testimony to the team’s dedication and hard work.”
Amec added it had hit 7million man hours without a lost-time incident during its operations for BG.
Earlier this year, Amec signed another North Sea contract renewal worth up to £30million.
Under the terms of that deal, Amec will provide operations, maintenance and project support to the Forties pipeline system for BP and it also won a £68million contract with the operator for work on two new Clair Ridge platforms west of Shetland.
