A former BP manager for far North Sea operations was named yesterday as the new chief executive of Canada’s biggest natural gas producer, Encana.
Doug Suttles, who went on to become chief operating officer at BP and helped to lead the response to the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, is taking over the role from interim CEO Clayton Woitas.
The top job at Encana has been up for grabs since early January, when Randy Eresman retired unexpectedly. Calgary-based Encana had said it expected the search for a new CEO to last from three to six months.
Mr Woitas, the firm’s designated chairman, said: “After an extensive global search, Doug stood out as the ideal candidate to lead Encana into its next phase of growth and development.”
