Filling the energy industry skills gap with young people from across Scotland is a priority of Holyrood’s employment strategy, claims a Scottish Government minister.
Angela Constance, minister for youth employment, told Energy Voice Scottish Government is undertaking a “wealth of activity” to address the skills shortage in the energy sector.
Constance, speaking at the Aberdeen and Grampian Chambers of Commerce networking breakfast, said the government was working to ensure women and young people across Scotland are aware of the job opportunities available today and in the future.
“I am very aware that in some sectors there is an issue of an aging workforce which necessitates the need to invest in young people, for companies to grow their own talent,” she said.
“It makes business and economic sense.
“There are huge opportunities in energy for young people and we really need to make sure that young people across Scotland are better advised about where the jobs are today and where the jobs will be tomorrow.”
