Statoil has discovered gas in a wildcat well while looking for oil in the North Sea.
The minor gas discovery was made in a well that intersected with a 50metre gas column on the north-east side of the Visund field.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said the find contains between 0.7million and 1.6million cubic metres of gas, after the well was drilled to 3020m in a water dept of 378m
Statoil is partnered in the Visund field with Total, Petoro and ConocoPhillips.
