Lundin Petroleum says it successfully completed its latest appraisal well in the massive Johan Sverdrup field after finding an oil column of 39 metres.
The Swedish firm, which has a 10 per cent interest in the field, drilled an appraisal well and exploration well to find the 82m column, and confirmed 39m of the discovery was ‘of excellent quality’.
“Both intervals were production-tested with rates of 5,900 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 1,500 bopd respectively,” the company said in a statement.
“Both tests indicate large lateral reservoir extension and they are in pressure communication.”
The well was drilled using the semi-subersible rig Ocean Vanguard, which wil continue to drill a further appraisal well in the area.
The find comes after Lundin made a 12m find in the field earlier this month.
