Aberdeen drilling contractor KCA Deutag has landed two international contracts worth a combined £29million.
The firm said it had agreed deals in south-east Asia and west Africa as part of efforts to expand its presence in the global offshore shallow-water market.
In Burma, KCA will provide operating and maintenance drilling services on the Shwe platform for Daewoo International Corporation for the next two years, while in Gabon the contractor’s Ben Rinnes jackup rig will drill two wells at a prospect operated by Tullow Oil.
Rune Lorentzen, president of offshore operations at KCA Deutag, said: “The west African market continues to be a major hub of activity for the oil and gas industry, and one where we have an established presence.
“Establishing new relationships in countries such as Gabon demonstrates how vibrant this area continues to be.”
“South-east Asia is an area where we have developed a strong and continually growing presence.
“This contract with Daewoo International Corporation is our second contract in Myanmar (Burma) and strengthens our position in the region. With existing projects under way, and a number of further opportunities identified, we are in a good position to continue to develop KCA Deutag in an emerging market which offers extensive oil and gas potential.”
Earlier this month, KCA Deutag revealed annual turnover of £1.1billion for last year.
The company operates more than 100 drilling rigs in over 22 countries and employs some 8,000 people worldwide.
