Dong E&P is to re-evaluate the Marjun oil discovery after beign awarded six exploration blocks in the latest round of licensing by the Faroe Islands.
The blocks, in the Faroe-Shetland basin, sit west of the Sheihallion and Foinaven fields and increase the company’s interests to 31 licenses in the region.
“The awarded blocks are located in a basin where we have identified a number of attractive prospects close to existing fields,” said Dong’s exploration director Søren Blegvad Andersen.
The seven year licenses, close to Dong’s existing discoveries near the Shetland Islands, cover an area of 900km and include the Marjun oil discovery, the first oil find off the Faroes.
Dong has made 10 oil and gas discoveries in the Faroes and Shetland area, including Laggan & Tormore, Glenlivet, Rosebank, Cambo and Tornado, with infrustructure being developed at Laggan & Tormore ahead of the first gas deliveries next year.
