Middle East firm Dana Gas says it has struck a successful test well at the West El Manzala discovery in Egypt.
The Sharjah-based outfit confirmed this weekend it had made another discovery in the country – the 25th since 2007.
Dana plans to submit a development plan for the facility, which would add an estimated 1600 barrels of oil per day equivalent to production from the Egyptian field.
“The Begonia-1 well continues a series of rich gas discoveries made last year, with the potential for fast hook up and production that helps to contribute to meeting Egypt’s gas needs,” said Patrick Allman-Ward, Dana’s general manager in Egypt.
“We are planning to drill two additional appraisal wells in these discoveries before the end of 2013.”
Dana, which has invested upwards of £1.2billion into Egyptian projects, is understood to be in discussions with the country’s government over recouping outstanding cash after Egypt fell behind in payments to energy companies.
