Energy supplier Aggreko has brought online two 220MW gas-fired power plants in Africa.
The projects, in the Ivory Coast and Mozambique, up the amount of energy produced from gas-fired plants by the company in Africa to 1,000MW.
“We have invested some £300 million in gas-powered technology over the last five years, and it now accounts for around 40% of our Power Project’s revenues,” said Aggreko chief executive Rupert Soames.
“For those customers who have access to gas, it is significantly cheaper and cleaner than liquid fuel alternatives.”
The Mozambique plant will produce 122MW additional power from the Ressano Garcia facility, which will be sent to both Namibia’s state utility service and Mozambique’s grid. The Ivory Coast generation, at the Vridi plant, will see an extra 100MW of additional generation for the country.
