Oil service firm Aker Solutions said yesterday it had won work on Statoil’s huge Mariner field in the UK North Sea
Aker said it would provide drilling equipment for the production platform at the £4.7billion development, which is thought to hold up to 400million barrels of oil. The Norwegian company is providing the tools for Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, which is building part of the £1.2billion topside for Mariner.
Aker said the agreement could also extend to Mariner’s sister field, Bressay, which is though to hold the same reserves as Mariner and is expected to be sanctioned by Statoil before the end of the year.
Although the majority of the work will be carried out at Aker’s Norway offices, Michael Griffin, managing director of the firm’s drilling technology business in Aberdeen, said a small team in the Granite City would help with installing the equipment.
