A £225million new pipeline to connect two North Sea oil fields is to be constructed by Statoil.
The 43km pipeline will link the Edvard Grieg and Ivar Aasen fields, taking oil from the former field to the Grane pipline, then on to Sture.
Statoil, a partner in both fieds and operator for the transort joint venture, said today it was working with its partners on the new line as a precondition for Lundin and Det Norske oljeselskap developing the Grieg and Aasen fields respectively.
“We are an important player in the Sleipner and Utsira area, and are therefore concerned with robust solutions that provide the possibility of expanded activities in the area in the future,” says Statoil’s Tor Martin Anfinnsen.
Production of the pipeline is due to be completed this year, with coating of the new line – to be caleld the Edvard Grieg pipeline – due for completion next year. Connectors will be fitted to the Grane pipeline when that field undergoes a planned shutdown next Spring, ahead of installation work in summer of 2014.
The Edvard Grief field is expected to begin production in 2015, with Ivar Aasen the following year.
