Middle East oil exploration company Gulfsands says it has secured a drilling unit to begin exploration work in Morocco’s Rharb basin.
Vinci subsidiary Cofor SAS will provide the onshore unit for the drilling of at least nine exploration and development wells in the region, with work due to begin in September.
“We are very pleased that the company has been able to begin its operationsin MOrocco so soon after the acquisition of these assets, which was only completed in mid-January 2013,” said chief executive Mahdi Sajjad.
“We are now very focused on making a success of our Rharb drilling programme and to the early commercialisation of the gas resources we are targeting.”
Work on the £1.7million drilling programme is expected to take up to four months, with a further four wells to be drilled in the second quarter of 2014.
