Marine technology firm Nautronix said yesterday it was about to file accounts showing sales rocketed by 41% during its 2012-13 trading year.
The Aberdeen company said revenue for the period came in at £16.1million, up from £11.4million the year before.
Nautronix, which also has sales offices in Stavanger, Norway, Houston in the US and Rio de Janeiro and Macae in Brazil, also said its onshore workforce had grown by 42 to 95 people during the year to June 30.
It expects the number to rise again during 2013-14, to about 120.
The firm, in its 30th year, said its recent growth was driven by the addition of a survey services division and significant contract wins, including recent deals worth about £2.8million.
Chief executive Mark Patterson added: “This has been an extremely successful financial year.
“Seeing the company grow and develop the way it has over the past 30 years is a testament to the service offering that Nautronix provides.”
The firm said it had invested £1.5million in research and development during the past year, with a further £1.2million spent developing a digital diver communications system – NASDive – which will be launched soon. Nautronix specialises in communication and positioning technology for the global offshore oil and gas industry.
It was founded in Perth, Western Australia, in 1983, and Mr Patterson and fellow north-east businessman Ian Suttie acquired the business for about £18million in 2002.
Early in 2010, Mr Patterson and Mr Suttie sold the business for tens of millions of pounds to SCF Partners. The exact value of the transaction was understood to be about £50million.
Mr Patterson re-invested some of the sale proceeds in the business and stayed on as chief executive.
The company opened new headquarters in Howe Moss Crescent, Dyce, last October. Profit figures for 2012-13 are not yet available but in the previous 12 months Nautronix had a pre-tax surplus of £1.3million, up more than 70% on the year before.
