Lundin Petrolum says it has found ‘very good properties’ after successfully drilling its latest appraisal well on the giant Johan Sverdrup field off Norway.
The well, drilled by the Bredford Dolphin facility, found a column of 11.5metres in good quality sandstone.
“We are very pleased with the latest Johan Sverdrup appraisal well which encountered a good quality reservoir section above and below the oil water contact,” said Lundin president and CEO Ashley Heppenstall.
“The lower OWC encountered and the thicker Draupne sandstone reservoir are both positive results.”
Norway’s Petroleum Directorate said the reservoir had come in at the expected depth, with a gross thickness of 24m.
Lundin is operator of the licence for the site, with a 40% stake, along with Statoil and Maersk which has 20%.
The Bredford Dolphin will now move to drill another exploration well at the PL544 licence, also operated by Lundin.
