Shell says it will shut in its record-setting Auger platform in the Gulf of Mexico as it prepares to link up with the Cardamom field.
The platform, which has produced more than 300million barrels of oil equivalent since its initial development in 1994, is to undergo modifications and retrofitting for its future role as Cardamom host.
The Dutch oil giant is connecting the Cardamom wells back to the Auger platform ahead of it going online next year, with an expected 50,000 barrels of oil per day peak rate.
“The Gulf of Mexico remains an important part of Shell’s portfolio and strategy, and it is expected to generate substantial growth over the next several years,” said Shell America’s deep water executive vice president John Hollowell.
“Cardamom is a great example of using existing infrastructure to increase oil and gas production in a less capital intensive way.”
