GE Oil and Gas is to relocate its global headquarters to London – but says it will keep its existing manufacturing and engineering operations in Italy.
The company currently operates its main operations from Florence, but will relocate management staff and operations to London from the beginning of next year.
GE already operates its subsea arm from Aberdeen, while its PII pipeline solutions branch is based in Cramlington.
Florence will retain the company’s turbomachinery arm – worth more than $6billion and employing more than 5000 people.
“London was selected as the new headquarters location given its position as a leading international business and travel hub,” said GE Oil and Gas president Dan Heintzelman
“From this location, a team of leaders from our global support functions will be able to more efficiently reach and serve our colleagues and businesses globally,”
The company said it would relocate a small number of staff from Florence, mainly associated with support functions, to the new offices in London and insisted it would continue to support Florence’s engineering operations.
“Florence will keep strengthening its reputation as a center of excellence for the manufacturing of centrifugal compressors and gas turbines,” said Heintzelman.
In 2012 alone we invested more than $100 million in the modernization of our plants in Italy and continue to be committed to maintaining Florence as one of our premiere manufacturing sites.
“We deeply appreciate the ongoing support of our employees, suppliers and partners in the country who are committed to the success of this business and GE Oil & Gas global growth.”
