Dong Energy says it has found gas in one of its exploration wells off Shetland – but has plugged a second well in the region.
The Cragganmore exploration well, west of Shetland, was found to have a gas presence after being drilled earlier this year.
The well, drilled earlier this year in difficult conditions by the West Navigator, will now be analysed to determine if it is commercially viable.
However, the Glenrothes well, which was drilled to 1169m at the end of last year, had been plugged and abandoned.
“The drilling of these two wells is part of our development of the region which holds up to 17 per cent of the UK’s untapped reserves,” said Dong head of UK E&P Brent Cheshire.
“The conditions have been challenging but we’ve had an excellent team on board the vessel and in our offices up in Aberdeen and the two operations were completed as planned, and with no incidents.
“We now need to look at the Cragganmore discovery to decide how viable it is.”
