First gas from phase one of the Breagh North Sea field could now be delayed until September after a problem with leaks, it has emerged.
Gas production from the Southern North Sea field, 65Km off the coast of England, were due to begin in August, but that date is set to slip.
Sterling, which is developing the field with RWE Dea, said the delays were down to leak testing at the Teesside Gas Processing Plant.
“It is not unusual to uncover pipework connection leaks at this stage with the rigorous testing processes being used,” the company said in a statement.
“However, the number and nature of detected leaks has been more extensive than allowed for in commissioning plans.
“Remedial works are progressing well and while all other works are progressing as expected against an August first gas target, it is likely that slippage into early September will occur.”
Earlier this month, Sterling and RWE Dea said they were looking to delay phase two development of the field, following ‘encouraging’ exploration work
The firms were given until December 31 to develop their revised plans for the field.
