Independent North Sea oil company Enegi could deploy the automated buoy oil production technology on the Malvolio field alongside its currently planned use in the Fyne field.
The Manchester-based firm farmed into the Fyne field earlier this year alongside existing licencee Antrim with plans to use the unmanned buoy system, which produces and processes oil automatically before unloading it to a tanker.
Now the company is to study seismic data carried out by its partner at the Malvolio field, Azimuth, to determine whether it is suitable for the ABTechnology buoy system.
“We are delighted with the progress that has been made to date on this project,” said chief executive Alan Minti.
“This programme is expected to greatly increase our understanding of this acreage as well as the potential it has. We also expect the work to significantly de-risk the Malvolio prospect as well as to enable us to determine the feasibility of developing Malvolio using ABTechnology’s buoy solution.”
Azimuth has conducted 100km2 3D seismic scanning of the site, which will help assess the oil potential in the field.
