Mozambique is urgently awaiting Aberdeen’s help to grow its fledgling energy industry, the country’s minister for minerals has told Energy Voice.
Her Excellency Esperança Bias closed last week’s two-day energy conference, organised by the Mozambique High Commission in London and Aberdeen City Council to establish business connections between the two countries and share the city’s knowledge about the oil and gas sector.
The profile of the event was raised by the visit of the country’s president, Armando Guebuza, who also visited Aberdeen universities to gain insight into industry skills training.
“We know that Aberdeen is a centre of excellence when we talk about the gas and oil industry,” Bias said.
“We are starting this activity in Mozambique and we need to take advantage of the relationship we have with the UK and with Aberdeen.
“I’m so happy to see that the local authorities, the private institutions are ready to help Mozambique to deal with this activity.
“I believe that as soon as possible some institutions from Aberdeen will knock on our door in Mozambique and say: ‘We are here to help you to skill your people’,” she added.
