DOF Subsea Norway has won the contract to provide production ship owner and operator, Teekay Petrojarl Production, with mooring pre-installation, tow-out and hook-up services for a new vessel.
The FPSO Knarr is due to be installed in the BG-operated Knarr field located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
DOF Subsea Norway has advised that it is to use the anchor handler/construction support vessel Skandi Skolten as the main asset for the work. However, six further vessels from its fleet will be called on as necessary to lend further muscle.
The project will be completed in three phases, the first of which will see the pre-installation of the complete mooring system consisting of 12 mooring lines taking place later this year.
DOF Subsea said that it has already started with the planning, engineering and offshore management process to ensure the project is executed in the “safest and most efficient manner”.
The FPSO will be kept at a fjord on the west coast of Norway when it is delivered in 2014 until the field is ready for the vessel to be installed later in the year, at which time it will be towed out to the location and connected to the pre-laid mooring system.
Knarr was discovered in the Tampen area of the North Sea in 2008 and is being developed based on a suite of nine subsea wells tied back to an FPSO. These include four production wells – two at Knarr central and two at Knarr West. The other five wells will be water injectors.
The FPSO will have a capacity of 63,000 barrels per day and a design life of 20 years. It is being built at the Samsung yards complex in South Korea and is due for delivery in Q1 next year.
