Equinor has announced an oil discovery in Norway of 37 – 50 million recoverable barrels.
The “Snoffon Nord” find lies in the Barents Sea in region of the Johan Castberg field, around 130 miles north-west of Hammerfest.
Equinor operates the licence, and will work with partners Var Energi and Petoro to assess tying the discovery back to the main Johan Castberg platform.
Kirstin Westvik, senior vice president for exploration and production north at Equinor, said: “Snøfonn Nord is an exciting discovery in the vicinity of the Johan Castberg development and can add valuable volumes to the installation in the future.”
The discovery was made a year to the day after the Isflaf find in the same area.
Snofonn Nord was drilled by the Transocean Enabler rig.
