Seismic specialists Spectrum says it has acquired new 2D surveys of the UK’s gas basin ahead of next January’s licence round.
The scans, covering more than 15 blocks in the southern gas basin, focus on the Scremerston coal formation off the Northumberland coast.
It marks the Norway-based company’s first UK project in 13 years, and comes ahead of the 28th licence round for gas in the Uk which is expected to open early next year.
“Spectrum is excited to embark on this seismic campaign in an area with an under-explored Carboniferous section and with a large number of open blocks available for the next licensing round,” said Kim Gunn Maver, the company’s executive vice presiednt for northwest Europe.
“The survey is designed to offer long-offset and broadband seismic for both regional exploration and detailed block evaluation. This is Spectrum’s first project in the UK since 1998 and it is part of our strategic plan to grow our library.”
