A new series of strikes look set to reduce Libyan oil output further after seeing them already drop by half due to disruption by workers.
Union officials are to cut production in the Mesla, Nafoora, Sarir and Hamada fields in protest at management changes at the Arabian Gulf Oil Company.
Workers are already on strike at the 220,000barrels a day Ras Lanuf refinery.
“Union members met today in the fields of Mesla, Nafoora, Sarir and Hamada, and decided to cut production in these fields at a rate of 10,000 barrels per day until the government responds to their demands,” oil workers federation vice president Saad Denar said.
Production in the country has already been shut in at the Es Sider, Amna and Sirtica fields due to storage tanks reaching capacity while refining strikes are ongoing, with the country’s oil shipmends already down by more than half to 425,000 barrels a day.
