Circle Oil says it will now look for alternative options after its Shehab-2 well in Egypt failed to flow gas.
The well, 2km north of the Geyad field, was spudded in June but, despite encountering a potential gas bearing interval and fracturation taking place at the end of last month, no gas has flowed to the surface.
However, the company has been boosted after encountering up to 34 feet of net pay in the Shagar sands and 32ft of pay in the Rahmi sands at their Al Amir SE field in the country.
The well, in the north-western part of the field, will now be tested and completed as a producer.
“Circle is very pleased with the results of the AASE-18 well, which will provide additional oil and gas production from the Al Amir SE field,” said chief executive Chris Green.
“In addition, the recompletion of AASE-6X for Rahmi production has resulted in a further increase in the total gross daily production to over 13,000 boepd.”
