Spanish engineering group Tecnicas Reunidas are to develop the first phase of the delayed Touat gas field in southwest Algeria.
Operators GDF Suez and Sonatrach confirmed the Spanish firm had won the $1billion tender to construct an industrial natural gas treatment complex and collection system on the field.
The project will include developing 25 wells and the associated gas gathering systems and condensate processing units, compressors and removal units.
Tecnicas will also provide auxiliary systems for the facility, which will have its own power generation and drinkable water production.
Gas production wells have started to be drilled on the field, which is expected to produce 4.5billion cubic metres of gas and 630,000 barrels of condensate a year.
Work on the field has been heavily delayed amid negotiations over transporting natural gas from the site, with production now expected to start in 2016.
