Rosneft is to spend $50million on testing and exploration work in the Kara Sea north of Siberia.
The news follows the end of the 30-day expedition staged by the Russian giant to survey the exploration conditions in the area, where Rosneft owns three oil and gas licences.
The study data will be used to provide information for drilling in the Vostochno-Prinovozemelsky-1 license block.
The findings will also help with the design of oil and gas production facilities in each of the three license blocks, including export terminals and subsea production facilities.
The expedition was the third organised by the group for the project and included the use of vessels, aircraft, drones and submersibles, along with international researchers and developers.
Exxon Mobil, Eni and Statoil also hold stakes in the block but will not begin works in the area until 2014.
