San Leon Energy has picked up a surprise oil well in the Polish Nowa Sól licence as part of its cooperation with the local copper company.
The Jany C1 well was drilled earlier this month by Zielona Góra Copper company, a subsidiary of KGHM Polska Miedź, as a second copper exploration well in the Polish Southern Permian Basin.
The drilling found a 43 metre-thick oil deposit, with additional 6 metre layer of oil-bearing dolomite.
As part of its cooperation with Miedzi Copper Corp, San Leon will carry out the evaluation of the reservoir for potential future production.
The Jany C1 well is placed 15km north from San Leon’s Czeslaw-1 oil well and 10% of its future production will be awarded to Zielona Góra Copper.
“Given that the Jany C1 well was not drilled on a structural high, strong oil shows and encouraging petrophysical analysis in the Jany C1 well underscore the regional nature of the Main Dolomite play,” said Oisin Fanninf, San Leon chairman.
“Our next step will be to test the well with modern stimulation techniques, in order to further prove up the resource.”
