BP and Reliance have struck a new gas discovery off the east coast of India.
The partners confirmed today they had made a second gas discovery in the Cauvery Basin deepwater block, around 62km off the coast.
Drilling in a water dept of 1743m to a total depth of 5731m, the site was found to contain a gas condensate column of 143m, with flow tests suggesting a rate of 413 barrels per day.
Reliance is the operator of the site, which will now be properly evaluated, with a 70% stake in the project.
