Technip is to lay the world’s deepest gas pipeline after securing a new contract for the Gulf of Mexico.
The French project management firm will install the subsea infrastructure for Shell’s operations in the Stones field.
The facility will include the deepest floating production, storage and offloading unit in the world – situatied in the Walker Ridge at a depth of 9,500ft.
“With greater depths come greater challenges for our clients and we are delighted to help Shell push back subsea frontiers by laying the deepest gas pipeline worldwide,” said Techinip’s North American vice president David Dickson.
The company will use the deepwater pipelay vessel Deep Blue next year, with Technip’s base in Houston overseeing the project and manufacturing being carried out in their centre in Mobile, Alabama.
The project will mark Shell’s first FPSO in the region.
